Introduction
The aim of the workshop is
- to gather feedback from the user community on specific applications of products disseminated by the LSA SAF;
- to re-evaluate the adequacy of product specifications, as stated in the User Requirement Document;
- to assess the potential usage of existing products in new applications, as well as to extend the set of products to be delivered.
The LSA SAF
The main purpose of the LSA SAF is to develop techniques to retrieve parameters related with land, land-atmosphere interactions, and biospheric applications, using data from satellites, with special emphasis on Meteosat and Metop series. The LSA SAF system is currently generating, archiving and disseminating a set of (pre-)operational products, including:
- Land Surface Temperature
- Albedo
- Down-welling Surface Short and Long Wave Fluxes
- Snow Cover
- Vegetation parameters (FVC, LAI)
- Other products, related to soil moisture and evapotranspiration, are under development
Programme (download detail version)
The first 2 days will be used for presentations, while the last day will be devoted to working group discussions. The working groups are expected to come up with a series of recommendations or guidelines for future research. These will be included in the report of the workshop, to be published by EUMETSAT shortly after the meeting. For guidance the presentations will be associated with the session categories listed below:
- Current and future activities
- Scientific validation of products
- Archiving and dissemination (e.g. EumetCast, GTS, Internet)
- Performance and quality control
- The Land SAF assets for GMES
- Interfaces with other programmes and projects
- with National Weather Services (NWP, Climate, Extreme events)
- within the SAF Network (e.g. OSI, Climate, Nowcasting, Hydrology)
- with other satellite programmes (e.g. MODIS, NOAA, SMOS, VEGETATION)
- with WMO programmes (e.g. GCOS)
- Applications of LSA SAF products
- Agriculture and forestry (e.g. crops, wildfires, frost)
- Hydrology (e.g. floods, droughts)
- Vector diseases
- Other
- Applications of LSA SAF products
